Can the Reds replicate their Statcast successes in 2027?

Can the Reds replicate their Statcast successes in 2027?

The Cincinnati Reds finished the 2026 season with an offense that looked average in the traditional standings, yet underneath the surface sat a set of Statcast numbers that painted a far more interesting picture. According to data compiled from Baseball Savant, the club ranked among the top ten in baseball in average exit velocity and hard-hit rate, two metrics that suggest the lineup was making consistently loud contact even when the results did not always show up on the scoreboard.

That gap between process and outcome is the central question heading into 2027. Players like Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain posted barrel rates that placed them in elite company, and the team as a whole cut its chase rate compared to the previous season. The problem was sequencing. Cincinnati hit into bad luck with runners in scoring position, and a below-average batting average on balls in play dragged down what should have been a more productive run total.

If the Reds can maintain those quality-of-contact gains while improving their situational hitting, the offense could take a real step forward. The underlying skills are there. The challenge now is turning hard contact into actual runs, and doing it consistently over a full season rather than in scattered bursts.
