Men’s and women’s sixes confirmed for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany

The International World Games Association has officially confirmed that both men's and women's sixes lacrosse will be part of the sports program for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany. This decision marks the fourth time lacrosse has appeared at the multi-sport event, which showcases disciplines not included in the Olympic Games.

Sixes lacrosse, a faster and more compact version of the traditional field game, was developed to fit international multi-sport formats. It features five field players and a goalkeeper on a smaller pitch, with shorter game periods and a continuous flow of play. The format has gained traction since its debut at The World Games 2022 in Birmingham, Alabama, where it drew strong crowds and positive reviews from athletes and officials.

Karlsruhe, a city in southwestern Germany known for its tech industry and cultural institutions, will host the event from July 20 to 30, 2029. The inclusion of lacrosse continues a partnership between World Lacrosse and the International World Games Association, with the sport also scheduled for the 2025 edition in Chengdu, China.

World Lacrosse president Sue Redfern called the confirmation a significant step for the sport's global growth. She noted that securing a place in Karlsruhe provides another major platform for athletes to compete at a high level and helps build momentum toward lacrosse's long-term goal of Olympic inclusion. The 2029 games are expected to feature around 3,500 athletes from more than 100 countries competing across roughly 25 sports.
