Chicago Bears special teams coordinator Richard Hightower spoke candidly about the difficulties rookie tight end Sam Roush has faced on special teams this season. The young player has encountered a tough adjustment period since entering the professional ranks, and his performance on coverage units has drawn attention from coaches and fans alike.

Hightower acknowledged that Roush is still learning the ropes of NFL special teams play, which demands a different level of speed, technique, and awareness than what rookies typically experience in college. He pointed out that the transition is rarely smooth for first year players, especially those who are asked to contribute immediately on multiple phases of the game.

The coordinator emphasized that Roush has shown a strong work ethic in practice and is absorbing coaching points. According to Hightower, the mistakes are correctable and often stem from hesitation rather than a lack of ability. He noted that confidence and repetition will be key factors in helping the rookie settle into his role.

Hightower also defended Roush's overall value to the roster, saying the team still believes in his potential. The coaching staff plans to keep working with him on fundamentals like hand placement, leverage, and timing. While the results have not come quickly, Hightower made it clear that patience and continued development remain the priority for the young tight end.
