Shohei Ohtani Discontent With Performance Despite Strong Start

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani showed once again that he can dominate on both sides of the ball during Wednesday's win over the San Diego Padres. But even after a solid outing, the reigning MVP was not satisfied with his performance on the mound.

Ohtani pitched only five innings, striking out seven batters while allowing two runs. He threw 91 pitches before being pulled from the game. While those numbers would be considered a success for most pitchers, Ohtani held himself to a higher standard. He pointed to his command and efficiency as areas that still need work.

"I wasn't sharp enough," Ohtani said through an interpreter after the game. "I left too many pitches over the plate, and I need to be better at finishing hitters earlier in counts."

The two-way star also contributed at the plate, recording a hit and driving in a run. His ability to impact the game from both sides remains a key reason the Dodgers are considered World Series favorites. Still, Ohtani's perfectionist approach has been a constant theme throughout his career.

Manager Dave Roberts downplayed the concern, noting that Ohtani is still building up his stamina after a busy offseason. "He's being hard on himself, but that's what makes him great," Roberts said. "We saw plenty of good things tonight."

With the Dodgers holding a strong early-season record, Ohtani's self-criticism may seem unnecessary to outsiders. But for a player chasing another MVP award and a championship, every outing is a chance to improve.
