Sports/Rec calendar: Aug. 28–Sept. 6, 2026

The local sports scene is packed with activity over the next week and a half, offering everything from youth clinics to college matchups. Here is a look at what is on the schedule.

Recreation departments are hosting a free tennis workshop for beginners on Saturday morning at the community courts. The two-hour session covers basic strokes and rules, and all equipment is provided. Pre-registration is required through the parks office. Also, the fall adult softball league is holding its final registration day on Tuesday. Teams looking to join must submit their rosters and fees before the close of business.

On the prep side, the high school football season kicks off with a full slate of non-conference games on Friday night. The defending district champions open at home against a tough rival, while two other local teams travel for night games. Volleyball teams are also in action, with several early-season tournaments scheduled for Saturday. Cross country runners will get their first look at the course for the annual invitational, set for Thursday afternoon.

At the college level, the university soccer teams both have home games this week. The men's squad plays on Thursday evening, while the women's team takes the field on Sunday. The college golf team opens its fall schedule with a two-day tournament starting Monday.
