The Ultimate Fighting Championship returns to the Las Vegas spotlight this weekend as UFC Vegas 116: Sterling vs. Zalal takes center stage at the Meta Apex. Friday’s official weigh-in session saw all 24 fighters successfully hit their marks, ensuring a fully intact fight card for Saturday evening.
Headlining the event is a pivotal featherweight clash between former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling and No. 7 ranked contender Youssef Zalal. Sterling, who moved up to 145 pounds after losing his bantamweight title, stepped on the scale at 145.5 pounds, showing no issues making the featherweight limit. Zalal, riding a four-fight winning streak, came in slightly lighter at 145 pounds flat. The bout marks a significant test for both men, with Sterling looking to reestablish himself among the elite and Zalal aiming to crash the top five.
In the co-main event, a welterweight matchup between Daniel Rodriguez and Bassil Hafez was also made official. Rodriguez weighed 170.5 pounds, while Hafez tipped the scales at 170 pounds. The preliminary card features a mix of rising prospects and seasoned veterans, including a lightweight bout between Chris Duncan and Viacheslav Borshchev, both of whom hit 155.5 pounds.
All fighters cleared the scales without incident, setting the stage for a full night of action. The event kicks off with early prelims at 4 p.m. ET, followed by the main card at 7 p.m. ET. Fans can expect a high-energy evening as the UFC continues its busy schedule of events from the Apex facility.
