Monday night featured a full slate of high school basketball across the region, with several key matchups impacting league standings. In WPIAL Class 6A, Section 1, the New Castle Hurricanes secured a decisive 60-47 victory over Fox Chapel. After a tight first quarter, New Castle steadily built their lead, outscoring their opponents in each subsequent period to seal the win.
In other boys basketball results, North Catholic dominated Shaler Area with a final score of 72-42. The Trojans established control early and never looked back in the non-section contest. Meanwhile, the game between Avonworth and Mohawk was a nail-biter, with Avonworth edging out a narrow 52-50 victory on their home court.
Girls basketball also saw competitive play. The North Allegheny Tigers continued their strong season with a commanding 58-31 win over Seneca Valley. In a closer matchup, South Fayette defeated Montour 49-41, using a strong defensive effort in the second half to pull away.
Tuesday's athletic schedule is equally packed, featuring numerous basketball games alongside wrestling matches and swim meets as the winter sports season continues toward the playoffs.
