Whispers around the league are growing louder that the San Francisco 49ers are eyeing a reunion with a familiar face from the NFC West. According to multiple insiders, the team is showing serious interest in adding former Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner to their roster. The move would bring the future Hall of Famer back to the division, this time wearing red and gold.
Wagner, who spent 10 dominant seasons in Seattle, was released earlier this offseason in a salary-cap move. Since then, he has been linked to several contenders, but the 49ers appear to be the most aggressive suitor. The fit makes sense on paper. San Francisco already boasts one of the league's most aggressive and athletic defenses, but they lack a true veteran presence in the middle of the field. Wagner would fill that gap immediately.
The buzz also includes a potential reunion with former Seahawks teammate KJ Wright, who played alongside Wagner for a decade. Wright, currently a free agent, has expressed interest in continuing his career. Pairing the two linebackers again would give San Francisco elite run-stopping experience and a level of football IQ that few units can match. The 49ers defense, already stacked with pass rushers and cover men, would become even more formidable against the run.
While no deal is finalized, the speculation has fans excited about the possibility of adding a player of Wagner's caliber. His leadership and production could be the missing piece for a team that fell just short of a Super Bowl last season. If the Niners pull this off, the NFC just got a lot tougher.
