Warriors Share Why Jonathan Kuminga Never Got Yaxel Lendeborg Treatment

The Golden State Warriors are already getting more out of Yaxel Lendeborg than they have from most rookies in recent memory, and the contrast with Jonathan Kuminga has not gone unnoticed. Kuminga spent years fighting for consistent minutes and never found a comfortable fit in Steve Kerr's system. Before the Warriors faced Kuminga, questions came up about why the two situations look so different.

The answer comes down to role and readiness. Lendeborg plays a straightforward game that fits what Kerr asks of his big men: screen, roll, defend, and move the ball without hesitation. He does not need plays called for him to be effective. Kuminga, by contrast, arrived with high expectations and a game that needed room to grow, which was hard to find on a team chasing championships every season.

Golden State's rotation rewards players who make quick decisions and protect possessions. Kuminga's athleticism was never in question, but his decision making and fit within a motion offense kept him in and out of the lineup. Lendeborg has stepped in with a narrower job and done it well, which is why he is earning trust early.

The comparison says less about talent than about circumstance. One player walked into a defined role. The other had to search for one on a roster with no patience for mistakes.
